Valerie M. Smulders graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology and Minor in Women’s Race and Ethnicity. She received her J.D. degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and concentrated in Business Transactions.
Valerie became interested in Law through her studies at the University of Michigan where she volunteered for a “Women in Prison” program. There, she mentored young children whose parents were incarcerated. She also worked with women who were incarcerated and disadvantaged by the legal system. This experience fueled her passion for law and fight for justice.
Valerie’s areas of practice include Family Law, Estate Planning, Business Law, Real Estate, Landlord/Tenant, and Civil Litigation. She is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of Michigan, and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.
